Homebeat Turns Ten

Hello friends,

So, here we are in the bleakest of mid / late winters, locked down, fed up, and at least partially pessimistic about the unending nature of this pandemic that is, increasingly, and perhaps most disturbingly, starting to actually feel like that much vaunted phrase ‘the new normal’.

We have been quiet on here for the past while for all the obvious reasons, and if I am to be truthful I will openly and honestly say that in some regards — the pregnant pause of the last (almost) 12 months has been a welcome hiatus for Homebeat. This small, but furry construct started off, and in many ways very much continues to be a very personal, and a very DIY project. It was never designed as a business or a job, it simply morphed through circumstance, and some concerted effort I guess, into both. Or at least half of both.

So it is with some small sense of amazement that I say that Homebeat as a project turns 10 this year of all years.

In keeping with the general feeling, of course the impulse it to celebrate such a milestone, but at the same time, given the hiatus, and the extended time to ruminate on such things — I am almost glad of the muted opportunities to do so, for really, what is there to celebrate.

Well, that’s complicated.

As a project, Homebeat has been the most incredible vehicle for me to create a foothold in a world I only imagined a decade ago, it has opened up so many roads, and most importantly introduced so many great people into my life — and as such it’s value is literally incalculable, and it’s legacy will live on beyond any amount of instagram posts or Facebook likes. It, and its related endeavours have been the overarching focus of my life for the last decade.
